The Hard Rock/Hair Metal/AOR Years: Luxuriant Power Ballads!
aka SHAG (Sleaze, Hair, and Glam) Music
The second in the series (the first one here -> Unsung Melodylicious!). However, a couple of repeats. Dang, I must really love those tracks haha. And like the first one, also contributed to Butterboy's My Compilation Series.
NOTE: Revised Edition!
I haven't heard several of the tracks since, well, the nineties! Many great tunes amongst the sixteen tracks. It's good to hear them once again.
The Gravelberrys "Wonder Where You Are Tonight" - from Toronto (Canada) lead by Paul Myers, older brother to Mike Myers (actor). Awesome tune with a play on lyrics similar to Paul Westerberg. Cornershop's "Wog" - when I first played this to my kids, they thought the backing vocalists were singing "Osh Kosh." They got the idea from a poster we have of a couple of kids wearing Osh Kosh boots. I really have no idea what those two words they're singing (a few lyric sites were no help either), and so I continue hearing Osh Kosh. LOVE that memory.
I Mother Earth's "Gargantua" is probably my fav from the band. Local H's "Bound for the Floor" - excellent rocker. They're all good. Enjoy!
16 Unsung Tracks from Great Artists/Bands
aka Great Tunes You Wouldn't Find on Greatest Hits Comps
aka I Love These Tunes, I Surely Do
Years ago, I've created several albums covers with similar photos as this comp. The photo would capture a pose with an instrument aimed at an inappropriate body part (in all fairness, it's just the angle, but fun to misconstrue with feeble minds like myself, haha). And then in a quick moment, an off-the-cuff remark. That's right - not much thought process. If the joke is dumb, the better it is. Like I've said, feeble-minded. I enjoy life :)
Hot Flaming Canadian Music: 16 Smokin' Tracks
Note: Was not the original title. I jot down various superlatives, adjectives, verbs, phrases, etc, on a list to use and NOT use. I don't recall the exact title but it wasn't the silly, "Hot Flaming..." My brain is usually on the fastest gear and three sentences ahead of stories and tellers, hence why it didn't clue in creating the covers. Once I noticed my snafu, I couldn't be bothered doing it again. I get bored too easily, lol.
Anyway, enjoy these Hot Flaming (give me a break! lol) Smokin' tracks!...
I Cook with Wine and Sometimes Add It to Food: 16 Melody-Licious Math-Rock Cuts
Another for Butterboy's compilation series...
Note: Revised Edition!
You gotta love Motorik-driven tunes. And what is Motorik you ask? A good to-the-point explanation from the www... The motorik beat is a distinctive rhythmic pattern characterized by a steady, propulsive pulse and a strict adherence to a consistent tempo.
10 tracks. An hour's worth. My fav is probably Trigona's "Von Graf." Dhidalah's "Neuer Typ" is another fav. Krautwerk's "VI" is another worthy addition. Oh, and I wonder how they came up with their moniker. Carpet's "We'll Start by Helping Kids Cross the Road" is a great track to kick-off the set. Anyway, all the tracks are more modern but still retain the classic motorik touch. Enjoy!
Note: I rearranged tracks 2 thru 6 from the original mix. I like it better this way.
A hodge-podge of sorts. A lot of familiar tracks and nary on the rare side, save the extended version of the Dream Academy's "Life in a Northern Town." A couple of fifties tracks: Louis Prima's "When It's Sleepy Time Down South" and Charles Mingus' "East Coasting." A couple sixties: Piero Piccioni's "North Pole Penguin" and Jimmy McGriff's "South Wes." A few eighties as well including the Doobie Brothers' "South Bay Strut." 16 tracks in all. Good stuff. Enjoy!
NOTE: Revised Edition!
So many awesome oldies. Plenty of rare stuff too. My favs? All 20 of 'em, but if I had to choose just three... The Deep River Boys' Shake, Rattle and Roll, Charlie Gore & Louis Innis' (You Ain't Nothin' but a Female) Hound Dog, and Mabel Scott's Boogie Woogie Choo Choo Train. They're all good. Enjoy!
Awesome Downtime: More Downtempo, Smooth D&B,... You Name It!
Note: Every selection is good to great in my books. All tracks (including the previous downtime comp) and any future downtime comps, I listen on various occasions be it in the bath, relaxing, or simply when I feel like it. I find relaxing music in all kinds of genres, and not just something you'd hear in a spa. I have nothing against the latter (I listen to it myself) but I want the comps to be more eclectic. I've found over the years several D&B (drum & bass) tracks that are also soothing. I specify them as smooth d&b. Yes, faster beats can be tranquil. Well, it works for me.
Please enjoy!
More Canadian = good! All 70s except Soho 69's Kiss My Boots from '93, Eye Eye's Out on a Limb & Toronto's Girls Night Out, both from the '80s. Favs? Big, BIG fan of Klaatu's Sub-Rosa Subway and Stonebolt's Don't Ya Hide It (please note: the latter is the remake version recorded about a decade later and imo, and very very rare for this to happen, but the better version). Triumph's epic "Blinding Light Show" off their debut and still one of the best (imo). Lots of goodies. Over an hours' worth. Enjoy!
