Halloween Monster Mix 2021

2 files: #1 all-in-one complete file mix, and #2 the separate tracks mix (keep in mind #2 does not include the various sound effects). Lots and lots of goodies with many oldies, and a few tracks from spooky films and tv. Favs include Vic Mizzy's "The Haunted Organ," The Toyes' "Monster Hash," Gil Mellé's theme from Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Kay Starr's "Headless Horseman," Baker Street Philharmonic's "The Witch" and many more. Note: Shouldn't the year on the cover be 2022? Yes and no. It's an old mix that I've revised a couple of times, finalized in 2021. For 2022, I set the tracks as one complete mix ala DJ mode.

Halloween Haunts 5: Nocturnal Fright!

More spookiness, mostly 60s. Christopher Lee's "Vampires" is probably a fan-made track. Zager & Evans' "In the Year 2525" - I recall reading a comment some time ago explaining as a young lad, the lyrics freaked him out big time and haunted him for years. The Kords' "Boris the Spider" is a good cover. Bobby 'Boris' Pickett, Johnny & The Hurricanes, George Jackson, Groovie Goolies, Cab Calloway, and others. 20 tracks in all. Note: About the last track; horror films take liberties with genial tracks and turn them (intentionally or unintentionally) unpleasant for some listeners (ie Tiptoes Thru the Tulips, Jeepers Creepers, etc) by association. I thought maybe "The Laughing Policeman," an innocent, jovial ditty, could possibly achieve the same effect. Try to keep that in mind while listening.

Halloween Haunts 4: Monster Madness!

And another one yet for all you Halloween lovers. There's a few rare film score/tracks included, notably Amedeo Tommasi's "Titoli finali" - it's a bit freaky. As for my fav, probably Gene "Bowlegs" Miller's "Frankenstein Walk." 20 tracks including Kay Bell and The Spacemen's "Scream Along with the Monster," The Invasion's "The Invasion Is Coming," Peggy Lee's "Bewitched" and  Gary 'Spider' Webb's "The Cave (Part I)." Enjoy them all!

It's that time of year once again. With this spooky compilation, I'm familiar with a few tracks while the rest are as rare as rocking horse poop. Favs? Electro-Tones' "Ghost Train" for one. A couple more in Carole Bennett's "Haunted Lover" and George Morgan's "Tennessee Hillbilly Ghost." Enjoy!

Continuing the series... awesome funky gems including Jack McDuff's "Flat Backin'," Charly Antolini's Power Dozen's "Eyes of Love," 72's "When Ya Git Through Wit It Put It Back" by The Blenders Ltd, Roy Ayers Ubiquity's "Cocoa Butter," and more. 16 in all including 1 bonus track (full version of Atlas' "Pasteboard"). Awesome Downtime: More Downtempo, Smooth D&B,... You Name It!

I listen to downtime (chillhop, lofi, downtempo, etc) almost daily. I find relaxing music in all kinds of genres, and not just something you'd only hear in a spa. I have nothing against the latter (I listen to it myself), but I want the comps to be more eclectic. As previously mentioned, I find relaxing music in many genres including certain drum and bass tracks (I label them as melodic or smooth dnb).

Big favs in this collection are Keeno's "Hold Ya," Weathertunes' "Passion," Empty Spools' "Always the Best Way to Learn," Fausto Trusso Sfrazzetto's "Nascere," and probably my top fav - Nine Inch Nails' "13 Ghosts II." Yes, that NIN band but no worries, it's not an industrial or noisy track. I first heard the track in one of my all-time favorite films, 2014's "The Raid 2" aka Serbuan maut 2: Berandal.

Awesome Downtime! The One That Started It All

Awesome Downtime! Chillhop, Downtempo, Smooth D&B, Trip-Hop, Nu-Jazz, You Name It! The original title that ended up into a series.

If you're after relaxing music that doesn't drift off into boredomland, then look no further. Now, this isn't all ambient or Kenny G type of stuff. I find soothing music in just about all genres, even fast-tempo'd tunes. The majority of tracks in the series lean more to chillhop and downtempo. All in all, it's super good music. Particular favorites in this volume include Lurch's "All Yours," Nightmares on Wax "Fire in the Middle," Thunderball's "Golden," Brookes Brothers' "Desert Island" and Bcee's "Hold On." They're all good. Press play, sit back, relax, groove... and enjoy!

16 Various Degrees in Funk

Get out the funk! Mostly 70s. Lots of goodies including favs by Sir Joe Quarterman & Free Soul's "Thanks Dad, Part 1 & 2," and the Nite-Liters' "Maynard Ferguson's Theme." Johnny Hammond's "Rock Steady" is another goodie. They're all good. Enjoy!

The Hard Rock/Hair Metal/AOR Years: Unsung Melodylicious!

And unsung they are. All 80s and 90s. My biggest favs? Fastway's "Say What You Will,"  Roxy Blue's "Times Are Changin'," and Winger's "Down Incognito" are probably my tops. Yeah Bop Station's "H.H.H." and Saxon's "Suzie Hold On" are a couple more favs. They're all good. Enjoy!

Too many favorites. They're all really good tunes. Biggest favs? Probably Rainbow Orchestra's "Seven Days Later," and Johnny Pearson's "Saturday Off." And can't forget Dave Richmond's "Phase Out" and Leon Paul-Phillips' "Turnham Green." Enjoy!

The Pretty Side of Progressive Rock

This was an older mix from a few years back. I still wouldn't mind making the theme into a series. Plenty of beauts on this comp including Paladin's "Flying High," Rare Bird's "Fears of the Night," and Pekka Pohjola's "Sekoilu seestyy." The majority of tracks are from the 70s. Enjoy!

Chilling Yet Hauntingly Beautiful Classical Music for Halloween

A quick banter regarding the selections...

Bach's "Toccata and Fugue" - An obvious choice, and (probably) included in 95% of other Halloween classical mixes. It's a great opener and sets the experience in gear...

Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" - Another obvious, but I didn't want to lose focus with the listeners...

Korngold's "The Gnomes" - I wouldn't say it's frightening, but it will grab your attention...

Mussorgsky's "The Gnome" - I originally wanted "Night on Bald Mountain." Maybe next time...

Penderecki's "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima" - This piece was the inspiration for the comp's title. It's harrowing, chilling, frightening, yet so beautiful. Do not be surprised if you find it disturbing. Excerpts have been included in films such as "The Shining," "The Exorcist," etc.

Milhaud's "The Good and the Bad Tutor" - Hectic but not as frightening.

Berlioz's "March to the Scaffold" - Another usual piece for the theme, merely added to keep you listening...

Gounod's "Funeral March of a Marionette" - Another well known piece and I'm sure most relate it to Alfred Hitchcock.

Chopin's "Funeral March" - Another well known piece to keep you on edge.

Béla Bartók's "String Quartet No. 4, Sz. 91: V. Allegro molto" - If this frightens you, you are not alone. I don't know the background or history on Bernard Hermann's score to Hitchcock's film, "Psycho," but it wouldn't surprise if Béla was an influence.

Shostakovich's "Symphony No. 10 in E minor, Op. 93: II. Allegro" - I just wanted something by Shostakovich.

György Ligeti's "Atmosphères" - Yes, you are correct - you've heard it in Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey."

Prokofiev's "The Magician Tchelio and Fata Morgana Play Cards" - A good choice for the theme.

Malcolm Arnold's "Tam O'Shanter Overture" - See previous entry.

Grofé's "Trick or Treat" - I found this by fluke. I don't recall the exact details, but thought it would make a good finale.

Ooo yeah is right. Big favs are Harold Alexander's "De Black Magician," Julien Covey's "Sweet Bacon," and Donald Austin's "Side Saddle." A little over an hours' worth. Enjoy!
