Music Power! 1974 [U.S. Edition]

22 Original Hits, 22 Original Stars

Last month, we had the Canadian K-Tel version, and now here's the US version. And the kicker is, not one repeated track between the two editions. There are a few repeat artists, but still a bonus regardless. And speaking of a bonus, I also included the lengthy album version of Barry White's I've Got So Much to Give. 22 23 tracks in all. Enjoy!

Ain't Nothin' but a Funky Party!!

And it sure is. Plenty of rare funk too. From '67 to '76, 18 tracks in all. My favs? All of 'em! Check out Ann Sexton's You're Losing Me, Stormy's The Devastator, and Ripple's A Funky Song. Yeah, they'd probably be my top favs. Enjoy the funk!

A Daily Excursion at The Bachelor Pad 2: Joys to Come

Finally, the second installment. I think it was almost a year ago when I mentioned doing a series, and forgot about it haha. 20 tracks for all you swingin' bachelor/bachelorettes... okay, all you betrotheds and married folks too.

My favorite tracks? Vytas Brenner's La Sabana. LOVE that track! O.B. Masingill's Cool Move is also cool too. The tune reminds me of the theme from the original Odd Couple tv show. Also love the smooth groove in Nino Nardini's Saint-Trop. Anyway, they are all good tunes. Relax, sit comfortably in your ball & egg chair, and enjoy!

That's What She Said! '60s Pop & Rockin' Ladies!!!

I've had that title stuck in my head and finally made use of it. Yes I know, unoriginal. Anyway, a few well known tracks and several "I don't recall hearing that on the radio" tunes. My favs? I'll go with Jean Wells' Can't You Feel It (from '68), and Pat Hunt's You Are My First Love (from '62). And lately, I've been enjoying The Ad Libs' The Boy from New York City, especially that I didn't care for it the last half century. Enjoy!

Rare Gems from the Gravel Pit 1: 1967

NOTE: Revised Edition!

Prologue: I was going to write a song and dance about the selection process but decided to just let the music do the talking. Of course, a personal anecdote would be pleasing, imo. As a matter of fact, I should be gnawing away on my left foot because quips/narratives are one of the important requisites I search for in blogs, et al. And yet, why don't I do the same?!? I don't have an excuse. Perhaps there are only a few of us that still long for a personal exemplum to widen our scope of notions to the timbres from the music. I don't know. And here I am writing a song and dance... lol.

In this series (RGFRGP), not all will be garage-rockers. Big favs you've asked? The Tiffany Shade's "Would You Take My Mind Out for a Walk" for one. The Candymen's "Movies in My Mind" is another big fav. Eyes of Blue's "Supermarket Full of Cans" and the Societie's "Breaking Down" are a couple of more. They're all good. Enjoy!

Rockin' Heavy, Hard & Steady 4: Another 70s Hard Rock Unsung Scorchers

Red hot! I'd say several tracks are rare. I don't think the general listener have heard of Wiggy Bits, Crazy Louie, Alpha Centauri, Whichwhat, etc. But you will if you give this a listen. Enjoy!

Awesome Downtime 19: Rainbow Daze

And once again, another volume. The first track (Santerna's Around Again) is a big fav. Maduk's Believe (Logistics remix) and Guardians of Dalliance's Blue Green goes way back to my 'downtime' time. Enjoy!

The Admirable Soundings of Library Lounge 1: The Scope of Things to Come

NOTE: Revised Edition!

Back to Basics... originally, I planned this blog to consist mainly of groovy/funky library/lounge music. That was the plan. I suck at plans, haha. I enjoy diversity or should say, prefer diversity. Anyway, here we are back to the basics...

In this series, the majority of tracks are groovin' lounge, library, soundtrack, etc. This volume is a mix with an emphasis on melody-licious! There's also 20 tracks and not the usual 16. Enjoy!

New Note: I forgot all about doing this as a series. I'm planning on doing a bachelor pad series; ergo, I may or may not come back to this.

Jammin' Me! 22 Reggae Jams

Just a simple title, but not the tunes. This mix will probably be the only one that's all reggae music.

I was late in the game for the genre. If memory serves correct, I wasn't all that keen on actual reggae when first heard. It wasn't until the early 90s when I heard a clothing store down in Toronto blaring out some cool jams. It wasn't the reggae I've heard on the radio or anywhere else for that matter. But it got me curious enough to seek out what I've been missing. I purchased a few CD comps but it wasn't anything what I heard from that store. And so, I left it at that until the later part of 1992, when I heard Mad Cobra's "Flex" (last track on mix). That did it! I was finally a fan.

About this mix - I was going to make it a 2 or 3 mix series but decided to trim it down as best I could and make it all personal favorites. 22 tracks in all, ranging from 1964 to 2003 (the majority are 60s & 70s) with a mix of rocksteady, ska, roots reggae, dancehall, and reggae pop. I think this mix is also a good starting point once you're familiarized with reggae. Enjoy!
